"It's nice but..." Maybe we don't take criticism as well as we could. When we showed off the Mark I, people were impressed. And they all had ideas for improvements. For one thing, we found out that not only did users want "the ability to fast-forward or rewind to any recorded message," but for rewind to work in a certain convoluted way. And we needed a silence detector. And we wanted to allow for variable length messages and a blinking message light, these being features common to real answering machines.
Maybe we don't take criticism as well as we could. So to avoid any more of it we set about creating the SPAM mark II. Which goes to show that just because something is Simply Perfect is no reason not to improve it.
