: New: Linux Mint is pretty awesome

I switched my main desktop computer over to Linux Mint a while back. I'm liking it a lot. It feels a little silly to say that I like it better than Ubuntu—if I understand what I see in the update manager correctly, it piggybacks on Ubuntu versions of lots of software. But Linux Mint has its own window manager. In the past, I've said "Don't worry so much about the window manager, it doesn't matter that much." But in hindsight, what I should have said is "Don't worry so much about the window manager; just pick one that stays out of your way and lets you get stuff done." Linux Mint has that.

If you've heard from other folks who moved away from Ubuntu to Linux Mint and you were curious, I encourage you to check it out. You might think "Oh, they were kvetching about Ubuntu Unity, but those guys just like to complain about whatever is handy," and I kinda suspected that might be happening. But then I tried Linux Mint, and wow it really is better. So maybe there's some kvetching going on and maybe a lot of those guys are complain-y, but in this case, I think they're right: it's worth your time to get away from Ubuntu Unity, and Linux Mint is a pretty easy way to do that. It brought me joy.
