Book Report: Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality
@hpmor is Harry Potter fan fiction...no, wait, don't run away. I'm serious. It's funny because in this book, Harry Potter doesn't just let himself get pushed around by the plot. He thinks things through; he applies the scientific method; he talks to teachers instead of always trying to go around them. And thus he circumvents huge parts of the plot. I heard about this thanks to a review by Journeywoman, who liked it though she was just ten chapters in. I read it to the end... so far. It's not done yet. But I suspect it will be more fun to read as a serial; some chapters drag a bit if you read them one after the other, but treated as linked short stories, I bet I would have liked them more. The only real problem with this work is that it's good enough to make me want to read the rest of Harry Potter. (But I knew that way lay only misery, so instead I just watched all of the movies over the course of a couple of weeks.)
