Hill Hunt: Prep Mail

A couple of weeks before game day, team captains received an email with some things to prepare ahead of time. It looked something like this:

Howdy Team So-and-so!

Thank you for signing up to play the Hill Hunt BANG on Nov 7. This mail tells you things you want to know ahead of time.
(A mail closer to game day will have your ClueKeeper Hunt Code.)
(Yet more info at http://lahosken.san-francisco.ca.us/anecdotal/hunt/60th/ )

Special Clothes - Your team’s players should dress in stripes. Some teams will dress in dots, some in stripes, some in solids; choose an outfit so other folks can figure out which of these you are without thinking too hard. If not all members of your team show up dressed correctly, it’s not the end of the world; they will have to sit out of the first puzzle, however.

Small Prize - Your team should bring a small prize, worth roughly $10-20. At the end of the game, each member of the winning teams will pick up a prize.

Know Cryptic Crossword Clues - You will want to know how cryptic crossword clues work. (You could learn during the hunt, but it would take a while.)
http://oxfordstudent.com/2012/01/12/how-the-fk-do-you-do-a-cryptic-crossword/ is a readable introduction.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptic_crossword has more information than you can stand (or will need on game day).

Have the ClueKeeper App, Know How to Use It - At least one team member should have the ClueKeeper app to check answers and direct you to puzzles. That person should have a ClueKeeper account; other team members who want to keep track of their past games also want ClueKeeper accounts. ClueKeeper delivers hunt info, verifies answers, scores, and more. You can get the app from http://www.cluekeeper.com .
If you haven’t used ClueKeeper before, try its DEMO hunt.

Start - Registration starts at San Francisco’s Washington Square Park at 10:30am. Game starts at 11. Bring $20 and a prize. Be prepared to sign a waiver. Bring paper, pencil, and a surface to write on. Wear comfortable shoes! Don't plan on finding street parking nearby; it's all 2-hour limit.

Have fun!

This gave teams a couple of weekends for clothes shopping. Some last-minute teams, stepping in to slots left by last-minute-cancelling teams, only had a few days to get clothes. GC assigned these teams stripes or solids instead of the less-easy-to-shop-for dots.
