WashDC 2004: Reducing Capacitance

From the interpretive text: "Over long distances the electrical property called capacitance distorts telephone signals. Scientific theory suggested that coils of wire properly located in the circuit would solve this problem. Michael Pupin at Columbia University and George Campbell at Bell Laboratories calculated the correct spacing of these coils. This innovation saved millions of dollars that otherwise would have been spent on heavy copper lines."
