On my morning exercise walk, I saw SFFD ladder trucks doing some sort of rescue on 17th Street. 17th Street is pretty steep; it's easy to remember it's 17% steep (though not that steep on the block where I saw the SFFD ladder trucks). I naively figured SFFD would send up ladders from the uphill side so that the ladders wouldn't have to be so steep. But I was wrong; they sent up two ladders, one from uphill and one from downhill.

I walked up the stairs from 17th to the road that spirals up to Mt Olympus; from there I could see the tops of the ladders; one steep, one shallow.
