Oof. San Francisco's Elections Director got caught helping a vendor sell their voting equipment to the city. The Director's contract is nearly up and the SF Election Commission wants to search for a better candidate. Our mayor and supervisors have, uhm, rallied behind the Director; they want to renew his contract without considering anyone else.

This is San Francisco, full of open-source-loving computer programmers. The Director helped a proprietary system vendor, refusing to consider an open-source system. Where in the city of San Francisco did my supervisor find someone who advised him that this was a good policy?

Here's a link to the article in the SF Chronicle; I hope it's not paywalled. "Controversial plan that could replace longtime S.F. elections chief blocked by Mayor Breed and supervisors"
