Inspired by Andrew Plotkin's post, I tried out a Verbatim web search on Google. In theory, this kind of search only searches for your actual search terms, doesn't try to perhaps-over-helpfully fix typos or what have you. But not many people know about it, so not many people use it. And when I tried it just now, it seemed kinda weird, which makes me think the nerds working at Google don't test it so much.

Google results page for [larry hosken], Verbatim turned on. The first result is my web site (yay), but then it's, uhm, local hotel listingsā€½

W-why is it listing local hotels?
