Anecdotal Evidence: The Wrong Dialog

Excerpt from mail sent in 2001, when I was a programmer on the game "New Legends":

I'm not a playwright, and working on this game has made that clear. There's places in the game where we need dialog so that the player knows what to do. But no-one's written the dialog yet. So I put some dialog in, but it doesn't sound right.

MONK:

When you're in position, I'll start the conveyor moving.
You must jump onto the moving conveyor.
You may need to jump fast.

PLAYER:

That's okay. We can jump fast. In fact, we enjoy it.

SIDEKICK:

I like jumping fast and kicking ass. And it looks like we're all out of ass.

While I enjoy this, it is not in keeping with the spirit of the game.
