I visited the aquarium at Moody Gardens. I would have visited more of Moody Gardens, but it was mostly closed. It had some kind of rainforest greenhouse--but that was closed for post-hurricane repairs. And so I visited the aquarium, which was still recovering from the hurricane. Some tanks were empty, their inhabitants hunkered down in larger displays. Some carpets were stained with water damage. I sat and watched one tank and smelled mildew, as if a great deal of water had soaked into the area and was still drying out.
The aquarium was awesome. There were a few large tanks. The kelp forest was like other kelp forest displays I'd seen. But there was a Caribbean display that was different. And there was a huge area, based on the local "flower bed" reef, I guess, that was just magnificent--with a transparent tunnel through part of the tank and a couple of viewing areas. I followed this green moray around as it made a circuit, undulating like a dragon in a Chinese new year parade.
