Rice had a newly-repurposed building, the Design Kitchen. They'd taken an old cafeteria, taken out the cooking equipment and replaced it with a sort of workshop for building things. The kids could work on constructing robots and such. I don't think it was open yet--when I walked up to the entrance, the door didn't open. Someone saw me rattling the door--and let me in. I guess I looked more like a scruffy design student than I looked like a trespasser. Inside, there were drill presses. There were half-assembled devices with propellors, circuit boards, boxes marked embedded this-or-that. And there were a couple of folks working with this drill press.
