On the UT Austin campus, I found the Gates/Dell computer science building. The first floor wasn't computer-science-y, just fancy. There was Real Art and fancy conference rooms and no place for frumpy nerds to slouch around thinking about directed graphs. It was pretty alienating, but then I went upstairs and there was a flyer for a symposium and pamphlets about local software outfits and some nerdly whiteboard marker graffiti on the glass walls and everything was OK again.
