Chicago 07: Photo of Elephant Hauling Mahogany

[Photo: Photo of Elephant Hauling Mahogany]

"Although mahogany was available "locally" in Central and South America, the wood used for the interior of the Peoples Gas Building was cut in the forest of the Andaman Islands off the coast of Inda. The Peoples Gas Building was, at the time, the only building of its kind outside New York City where this particular mahogany was used throughout for finish. The photo here shows an elephant hauling one of the massive logs from the forest."
