Departures: Japan 1991-92: Chiizu N Des

as recollected January 1993, two years after the fact

I think I bought some cheese once in Japan, some time when I was getting really tired of how funny miruku tasted over there. And the cheese tasted _really_ bad. Like, Japanese milk tastes rotten to me, and that cheese tasted like Japanese milk which had been allowed to go bad, which I suppose it was. It's enough to make me regret that the Dutch got to Japan so early. I remember some of the cheeses my parents used to bring home, cheeses visited upon the world by various Nordic-type herders of goats. Nasty stuff, but I really get the impression that it took root in Japan. But that's a big opinion to base on one piece of cheese.
