| At an intermodal shipping center like the Port of Oakland, you need an efficient way to store lots of flat truck trailers. This is a photo of a structure that looks something like a big ski/snowboard rack. Really big. Perhaps the snowboard rack of the gods.

| Cargo-manipulating devices. Someone told me that these inspired the design of the At-At walkers in the "Star Wars" movies.

| One night I worked very late. I barely caught the last train back to San Francisco from Berkeley. I'd missed the last streetcar from the train station to my home, so I decided to walk back rather than bother with the bus.
|
| As I was walking along the street, I found a utility box sitting open. Looking inside, I saw wiring and boxes, but I couldn't really focus. I'd been working very late and my vision was blurry.
|
| Still, I was curious to know what I was looking at, so I took a bunch of pictures. They turned out well enough such that, after I'd rested and got the pictures developed, I was able to tell that I'd been looking at a controller for some crossing lights.
