: New: Book Report: The Suitcase Clone

It's a heist set in the same universe as Sourdough, and thus the object of the heist isn't some jewel-encrusted MacGuffin, but is gastro goop—our protagonist goes to Italy to steal grape vines and their attached rot (fungus) so that a nascent California winery can produce a copy of legendary sweet wine. It's viticulture where the "culture" is of the fungal variety, tagging along thematically with Sourdough's starter. The fictional winery's fungus is stronger than the usual rot; granting mystical vision such as you might associate with other fungi. Our protagonist isn't an accomplished criminal, but more of an amateur baker. (I can dream of a more-criminally connected heister in this universe that somehow combines thieve's argot with ergot.) It's somehow a grubby crime story but also a fun read.
