Here are three popular blog posts from 2022:
- I got my second COVID-19 vaccine booster today…, in which I post a vaccine band-aid selfie and reflect on the trickiness of deciding when to get a vaccine, trying to spot the start of a surge. (In hindsight, I did OK at surge-spotting; but my timing was still off because back then we thought vaccines would protect vs infection for four months, but for the recent slippery COVID variants, the vaccines only protect against infection for three months (but still protect against hospitalization for longer, whew)).
- Book Report: Imagine That! This was an atypical nerd autobiography, that of Ed Smith, one of the first African-American people to work in electronics design, video games, and personal computers. It's a mix of 1970-80s geekdom and surviving growing up in a rough neighborhood.
- phraser improvements: I made some tweaks to phraser, that computer program that lists common words+phrases. Now it's smarter about using crossword constructor dictionaries and words with accent marks; also it uses less memory, which should help anyone who's running the tool instead of just grabbing the word+phrase lists that I occasionally post (but I kinda suspect everybody just grabs those lists).
Bonus: a popular picture from last year, a sign that used maritime signal flags and four not-maritime-signal flags:
Were you hoping for more than three blog posts? lahosken.san-francisco.ca.us/new/2022/ lists all my 2022 blog posts, with more pithy observations than you can stand.
OK, now to go post this on Facebook, Twitter, and Post.news for folks who don't follow my blog year-round.
