Nov 30, 2004 | It is this site's three-millionth hit! 24.14.213.196 - - [29/Nov/2004:05:37:10 -0400] "GET /departures/japan0/antiknock .html HTTP/1.1" 200 15791 "http://www.google.com/search?q=punk+hand+gestures&sou rceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org. mozilla:en-US:official" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7. 5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0" It looks like I am failing to help some scholar learn about punk hand gestures. How tragic. [This entry originally posted from the city of Nelson, New Zealand] |
Nov 27, 2004 | I'm too lazy to write new material, so now I just rip it off: Earlier this year, I read an interesting book with interesting US Navy history background. That book mentioned another book, a 100-year old book about undersea cable laying and repair. I tracked down that old book and read it. It was pretty interesting, too. And since it's 100 years old, it's probably not copyright-protected anymore, so I copied out some of it. It's an excerpt about specilized grapnels and grappling hooks used in the retrieval of undersea telegraph cables for repair. Yes, really. Also uploaded some disjoint travel notes about my trip to Monterey. |
Nov 23, 2004 | Uploaded a short set of snippets from a weekend of various puzzle hunts. I'm switching jobs, so I updated my contact info page and resume. And then I uploaded more photos of Redwood City. Probably my last photos of Redwood City for a while, since I don't work there anymore. |
Oct 10, 2004 | Added a page to help me learn Morse code. Since I'm practicing for puzzles which might use apples and oranges instead of dashes and dots, this is actually an encrypted Morse code page. There are new comments, one of which inspired me to add a "Where can I find the GEOS SDK?" entry to my FAQ page. |
Sep 15, 2004 | Uploaded a long write-up about the Justice Unlimited Game, a 30-hour treasure hunt full of puzzles. |
Sep 07, 2004 | There are a couple of new photos of me up on the page with photos of me. Looking at the photos on this page, you might think that, clothes-wise, I own only four shirts and a Superman costume. But you'd be wrong; that Superman costume is long-gone. There is a new comment. |
Jul 15, 2004 | A medium-length puzzle hunt description: Bang 7 (Non-Trivial Pursuit). Beware of new comments. |
Jul 11, 2004 | Two very little pieces which are tangentially related to treasure hunts: Skip Guy and Two Photos July 9 2004. |
Jun 19, 2004 | It is 1:30 in the morning. I am just staying awake long enough to make an addition to the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra review page to note: they played the best live show I have ever seen. Wow. |
May 23, 2004 | I went to Washington DC to see my cousin get married, and when I came back, I had some photos, mostly of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History's Information Age exhibit. And then I took more photos in Redwood City. Can you withstand the photosity? It's like 5 Megs of photos in a 2 Meg bucket! |
Apr 27, 2004 | I wrote something about a treasure hunt, the Bay Area Night Game V. It was a strange mix of adrenaline and puzzle-solving. I stopped the free-books-or-music offer, because it didn't get rid of my stuff quickly enough. Also, a couple of new comments. |
Mar 16, 2004 | Posted some recent photos and an informational interview. New comment! Plus an update on an older comment: the Erin Bardwell Collective CD showed up and it is good! |
Feb 15, 2004 | Posted yet more Japanese Ska and Punk reviews, bringing the total number of reviews above 40. New comment! |
Feb 07, 2004 | Posted a few more Japanese Ska and Punk reviews, including Camel and The Offbeaters (snicker). Don't get too excited about these reviews--they're for bands I've only heard one song of each. I just read that Tower Records filed for bankruptcy. I sure hope that Tower Records of Japan keeps selling music in the USA. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to figure out Amazon.co.jp's user interface. What a mess. |
Jan 25, 2004 | Posted a few Japanese Ska and Punk reviews, including Emmie the Stripper and Almighty Bomb Jack. Don't get too excited about these reviews--they're for bands I've only heard one song of each. Posted my Orkut ID to the contact info page. |
Jan 01, 2004 | Happy new year! I posted my fave reads for 2003. |
